Agricultural sustainability in Karnataka: Application of Sustainable Livelihood Security Index

The present study was carried out in Karnataka state to assess the relative agricultural sustainability status ofKarnataka during year 2021–22 using Sustainable Livelihood Security Index (SLSI). Three indicators, viz.Ecological Security, Economic Efficiency and Social Equity were used. results of show that inKarnataka better conditions for sustainable agriculture exist majority Southern districts. However, few Northern districts, viz. Belagavi, Raichur, Bagalkote Ballari have level ecological security some districts Bengaluru (U), (R), Chikkaballapur, Kolar Ramanagara low security. In economic efficiency social equity indicator also, lagged behind compared southern while Belagavi Kalburgi shown performance rest state. Adoption practices such as judicial use fertilizers plant protection chemicals, efficient water techniques (drip sprinkler irrigation), organic manures diversification farm activities would help development. To achieve sustainability, steps need be taken enhance forest cover through afforestation especially which poor Further, there is a crop yield, encourage dairy farming improve work force participation training skill development with efficiency.
